California Courts’ Failure to Report Vehicular Manslaughter Convictions Poses Grave Public Safety Risk

A deeply disturbing revelation has sent shockwaves across California: state courts have routinely failed to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) about hundreds of vehicular manslaughter convictions over the past five years, allowing individuals responsible for deadly crashes to retain their driving privileges unlawfully.A comprehensive investigation by CalMatters identified approximately 400 unreported cases between 2019 and 2024.
