A former Toledo police officer has received 10 hours of community service and a suspended jail term for buying illicit marijuana while on duty in December.
Judge Nicole Khoury said Wednesday afternoon in Toledo Municipal Court that Jeremy Berndt, 31, of Perrysburg, will perform his community service at the Frederick Douglass Community Association, where he will mentor young children on how to be good citizens and stay out of trouble.
As long as he performs that service in a timely manner, the judge said, his 60-day sentence in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio will be vacated…
