Missouri one step closer to passing CROWN Act, banning race-based hair discrimination in classrooms

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Missouri bill banning hair discrimination is one step closer to becoming law.

The CROWN Act is currently sitting on Governor Kehoe’s desk. As part of Senate Bill 160, it would prohibit discrimination against a person for their hair texture or protective style at any schools or educational programs that receive state funding.

According to the CROWN Research Study, black women are 1.5 times more likely to be sent home from work or school and 3.4 times more likely to be perceived as unprofessional because of their hair.
