Judge Blocks Defense Theory of Alternative Suspects in Kohberger Murder Trial

BOISE, ID – The trial of Bryan Kohberger, accused of the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, has been postponed by one week, according to a new court order issued on Thursday.

The amended timeline pushes jury selection back to August 4, 2025, a change from the original start date of August 1. Opening statements, previously set for August 11, are now slated to begin on August 18, a slight delay from the timeline that had been in place for months.

In a separate order, Judge Steven Hippler has also limited the defense’s ability to suggest that anyone other than Kohberger may be responsible for the murders. Kohberger, a former criminal justice Ph.D. student at Washington State University, faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary in connection with the killings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Zanna Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, who were found dead in an off-campus residence on November 13, 2022…
