Salem man sentenced to more than 60 years for Highway 22 shooting that killed 1, injured 2

A Salem man was sentenced June 26 to nearly 64 years in prison for 25 charges related to a 2023 shooting on Highway 22 that left one person dead and an officer and a bystander wounded.

Jose Corral-Zavala, 22, was found guilty June 18 by Polk County Judge Monte Campbell of second-degree manslaughter, attempted aggravated murder, first-degree assault, nine counts of unlawful use of a weapon, 10 counts of recklessly endangering another person, assaulting a public safety officer, criminal mischief, and fleeing or attempting to elude a public safety officer.
