Critically endangered primate born at Akron Zoo

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – The Akron Zoo welcomed its newest resident on Friday afternoon.

Parker, one of the Akron Zoo’s white-cheeked gibbons, gave birth to a baby gibbon at 4:20 p.m., officials announced Friday evening.

“The baby is doing well, and its sex is unknown at this time,” zoo officials said in a press release. “Infant gibbons hold on to their mothers from the time of birth. Parker is proven to be an excellent mother.”
