One dead after car catches fire in Asheville wreck

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – The Asheville Police Department said one person is dead following a car crash on I-40.

On Thursday afternoon, June 26, officers were called out to Interstate 40 East near Mile Marker 45 regarding a car crash.

The department stated that a 1980 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling east on I-40 when it came to a stop in the center lane. Authorities believe the cause of the car stopping is due to a mechanical failure. A 2016 Ford Escape was traveling behind the Corvette, and was unable to stop in time. The Escape rear-ended the Corvette, and the impact allegedly caused the Corvette to catch fire…
