Family of teen who drowned in Ohio River hosts memorial in last spot he was seen alive

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It’s been a traumatic week for a Louisville family after the loss of their beloved teenager who drowned in the Ohio River.

The family of 13-year-old Derrick Saunders Jr. gathered at the last place the teen was seen alive, the Greenwood Boat Ramp in southwest Jefferson County, to host a memorial in his honor.

“I was asleep and I woke up and my son was lost in the river,” said Derrick’s mom, Lakesha Saunders said to the crowd. “And if anyone knows me, I protect my kids, I give everything, I work hard every day and I give them all I have.”…
