MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s EMS services have been recognized nationally by the American Heart Association for its response time and care in critical heart attack and stroke situations.

According to an MFRD news release, the department was awarded the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold achievement award for “it’s commitment to offering rapid and research-based care to people experiencing the most severe form of heart attacks and strokes.”
Emergency Medical Services staff, or paramedics, can start treatment the moment they arrive on scene, in some cases up to an hour earlier than if a patient is taken to the hospital in a car, the release said.
Additionally, patients taken to the hospital via ambulance can sometimes receive faster treatment than those brought in by private car, the release said…
