University of Oregon lays off 42 employees, more expected amid budget shortfall

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The University of Oregon laid off 42 employees last week, with more expected to come, a university spokesperson told KOIN 6 News.

The layoffs come from the College of Arts and Sciences, the university’s largest school, holding approximately 1,430 full-time employees as of the Fall 2025 term.

According to university spokesperson Eric Howald, the positions affected by the layoffs included the Dean’s office administrative staff, university support staff, communications, grants, as well as 11 faculty.
