Rise reported in rideshare driver robberies and carjackings, warns OPD

(KRON) — The Oakland Police Department is asking rideshare drivers to be on the lookout as investigators are seeing an increase in robberies and attempted carjackings.

OPD said three recent cases happened in the same area of 46th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard that all followed a similar blueprint.

“In these recent incidents, unknown suspects requested rides in the area,” said police. “Once inside the vehicle or upon the driver’s arrival, the suspects claimed an issue with the vehicle and asked the driver to pull over. At that point, the suspect(s) attempt to steal the car or rob the driver.”

Oakland PD confirmed that two juveniles have been arrested in connection to two of the cases and the identity of a third juvenile suspect is sought for the third incident…
