LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – For the past decade, the nonprofit One West has been dedicated to revitalizing abandoned buildings in the West End. Friday, the organization cut the ribbon on their latest project– a space on South 18th Street– that holds a lot of history and is now transformed.
“Our goal is to make sure that we’re able to revitalize, corridor by corridor in West Louisville, the different vacant and abandoned buildings and lots that can be repurposed for opportunities for the local residents,” said Evon Smith, One West CEO.
Smith was joined at the ribbon cutting for 526 S. 18th Street by several Louisville leaders, including Mayor Craig Greenberg and District Four Councilman Ken Herndon. Michael Brown, a respected leader and trailblazer for justice and equity in Kentucky who served as Secretary of the Executive Cabinet and was the first Black leader of Kentucky’s Justice Cabinet…
