NYPD: Body found on Staten Island shoreline; medical examiner to determine cause of death

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A body was found on the shoreline of Staten Island on Friday afternoon, according to police.

Officers were called to Fort Wadsworth at about 12:22 p.m., where they located the body of a male that authorities believe washed ashore from the waters off of Staten Island, according to preliminary information provided to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

The person was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death, said police.

The body was heavily decomposed and authorities are trying to determine how the person ended up in the water, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation…
