A newborn infant was found by Phoenix police during a wellness check laying beside her mother, who had possibly been dead for several days. The girl was in critical condition when police arrived, emaciated and severely dehydrated.
Neighbors at the apartment complex had called for a wellness check on May 14 when they saw packages piled up outside the home. They told police that they had not seen the woman “for days,” police said.
Body camera footage released Thursday shows the moment the officers entered the home and discovered the mother had died, but that the infant was “clinging to life.”
” The mother had passed away while the child was still on the bed still curled up where the mother had left them,” Sergeant Brian Bower told AZ Family. ” It wasn’t learned until well after the fact from doctors and staff at the hospital that if the police officers didn’t immediately provide aid and didn’t immediately go into the apartment, the child may not have survived much longer.”…
