Cedar Rapids 2nd grader takes medals home at national Invention Convention

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Oliver Matalon is a little kid with big ideas.

His mother, Dani Collins Matalon, says the Cedar Rapids 2nd grader has always been into STEM. “He’s wanted to be an engineer since he was like a little tiny kid. He’s always building things. He’s, you know, obsessed with the airplanes and all kinds of trains and all kinds of different inventions, especially transportation,” says Matalon.

That love of building got Oliver involved with the Iowa Invention Convention. His invention, the Recessed Rescuer, helps kids who use a booster seat get their seatbelts buckled easier…
