Austin police have charged two men in connection to the shooting death of a 45-year-old man in Southeast Austin in December. Johnny Ybarra, 34, and Manuel Medina, 37, were both charged with murder, police said in a news release on Friday.
Police say the men exchanged gunfire on Dec. 13 that killed Erik Tijerina in the 500 block of Thrasher Lane. Police were notified at 3:53 a.m. and found Tijerina with gunshot wounds in the front yard of a house, according to the release. Tijerina later died at a hospital on Dec. 15, police said.
Ybarra was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Dec. 13 in connection with the shooting. Police issued an arrest warrant on June 19 for murder for Medina and Ybarra.
