(Des Moines) Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, June 28, 2025, to honor a fallen U.S. Army Air Forces gunner from Iowa Falls, Iowa, who was killed during World War II.
U. S. Army Air Forces Corporal Melvin L. Huff was reported missing in action in January of 1945 near Wewak, Territory of New Guinea. Huff’s unit attacked enemy positions on Cape Wom. Huff was accounted for in July of 2024. He was 19 years old when he went missing in action.
