Vandals have removed more than 150 storm sewer grates in St. Paul

Vandals have removed more than 150 storm sewer grates from St. Paul streets since early June.

The city issued a release Friday about what it calls “unusual and repeated vandalism of storm sewer drains that has affected more than 150 catch basins across Saint Paul.”

The vandal, or vandals, have been removing the storm drain sewer grates — each one weighs approximately 150 pounds — and dropping them into the storm drains. The open holes where the covers have been removed is considered dangerous for pedestrians, bikers and motorists.
