U.S. Postal Service looks to combat mail fraud

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The United States Postal Service wants to make sure New Mexicans don’t fall victim to mail fraud. USPS shared tips to prevent mail-related crime and the latest phishing, smishing, and brushing scams. Since 2023, officials said they’ve made roughly 28,000 arrests related to mail theft.

The inspection service said that during the 2024 holiday season, USPS also saw a surge in mail fraud scams, including asking consumers to give sensitive information through deceptive emails or misleading text messages. “The Postal Service text messages never include links. Don’t click on any links,” said Kelly McNulty, U.S. Postal Service & Public Information Officer.
