Fireworks Ban Issued for High Fire Risk Areas

MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES — With the 4th of July celebrations approaching, CAL FIRE is reminding residents of Mariposa County and Eastern Madera County that all fireworks are strictly prohibited. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection MMU Unit issued the warning on June 27, 2025, in response to heightened fire danger across the region.

Firework Ban & Penalties

Fireworks are illegal throughout Mariposa County and in all areas east of the Madera Canal in Madera County. CAL FIRE Peace Officers will be out in full force over the holiday weekend to enforce the ban.

Violators risk a fine of up to $1,000 and up to a year in county jail. Possession of large quantities of dangerous fireworks can lead to felony charges, including up to three years in state prison, and fines of up to $50,000.
