It is always great to hear when senior citizens are still active later in life. One West Michigan senior is still swinging the golf club at 95.
Active Seniors
I love it when I drive by a park and a group of senior citizens are working out in a group, taking walks, or even reading. What these things do is keep senior physcially and mentally active which is extremely important.
My mom is getting up there in age and even had knee surgery a couple of years ago and her and her friends are constantly on the go. Both of my parents fortunately are doing very well at their age because they’ve had an active life. Plus, they have two grandsons they need to be on their toes for.
Physical and mental activity is important for not just seniors but all people. These activities contribute to overall well being, independence, and quality of life. Physical activity helps prevent or manages chronic diseases, can improve strength and balance, and enhance cognitive function.
Seniors who regularly read help keep their minds sharp, improves memory, and even delay cognitive decline.
96 and Still on the Green in West Michigan
His name is Bernard Vander of Hudsonville, Michigan. According to WOOD, Vander is 95 but will be 96 years old in July and golfs three times a week at Gleneagle Golf Club. He has a 13 handicap and claims he’s getting worse, but he is still dialed in at 95 mentally and physically.
Vander has 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, goes to church once a week, but admits to spending most of his time with his golf buddies.
To hear Vander speak and to see him swing that club, he truly is an inspiration for all of us to stay moving, and keep the mind growing, and maybe we too can do something we love way into our 90s.
If you don’t believe me when I say he’s an inspiration, watch the video below, and if you don’t smile you are not human…
