Facial recognition software has helped track down a hit-and-run suspect.

Brandon Joles, 24, of Summerfield, is facing numerous charges after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash June 19 which injured a female motorist.

The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash in Ocala in which a white Toyota Rav4 sustained significant rear-end damage and left the female driver suffering from back pain. Her vehicle had been rear-ended at a red light by a silver older model Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.

A witness captured video footage from the crash, including images of the driver of the pickup who had a full right arm tattoo. The video did not pick up the truck’s license plate, but FHP was able to use facial recognition software to determine that Joles, who has a lengthy criminal history, appeared to be the driver…
