John Patrick Shea Pleads Guilty to Brutal 2023 Killing of Jillian Angner, Attempted Murder of Her Son
A calculated act of violence has landed a Bluffton man a life sentence behind bars after he ambushed his ex-girlfriend while she was driving her 6-year-old son to school. John Patrick Shea, who turns 30 this Saturday, pleaded guilty to the 2023 murder of Jillian Angner, bringing an abrupt halt to his jury trial on Wednesday.
Shea also admitted to the attempted murder of Angner’s young son, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He received the maximum penalty for all offenses, culminating in a life sentence for murder.
“This was a calculated and deeply disturbing act of violence,” stated Hunter Swanson of the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, who prosecuted the case. “Today’s conviction cannot restore Jillian’s life, but it brings some measure of justice to her friends, family and young son.
