WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The owner of a Worcester bakery is celebrating the verdict in the Karen Read murder retrial by selling baked goods in support of Read’s defense fund.
Read was found not guilty of second-degree murder, manslaughter, and leaving the scene last week in the death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe. She was found guilty of drunk driving and still faces a civil lawsuit from O’Keefe’s family.
The criminal case gained national attention because of swirling conspiracy theories that Read was framed. Read’s defense used that argument during her first trial, which ended with a hung jury, and the subsequent retrial.
