“It can be a hazard”: Beach official speaks about dangers of beach umbrellas

Wrightsville Beach, N.C. (WECT) – A beach official reminds people about the importance of beach safety after a lifeguard was impaled by an umbrella in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

The incident is another reminder that about 3,000 people a year are injured by beach umbrellas, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
