City will begin demolishing old Waipahu incinerator in July

The City and County of Honolulu sent a release to alert Waipahu community members that the demolition of the old Waipahu Incinerator Building and other structures at 93-65 Waipahu Depot Street will begin in July. The space will eventually be repurposed for a new refuse center.

The City’s Department of Environmental Services said the work is expected to last seven months. Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except during state holidays. During this time, people should prepare for increased traffic around the work site, which is near the end of Waipahu Depot Street and Farrington Highway. There will also be dust and noise.

The City used the incinerator building at 93-65 Waipahu Depot Street between 1972 and 1994 as a municipal solid waste incinerator. Crews will also demolish nearby ramps, a former two-story office building, a former wastewater treatment building, and a former transformer shed…
