Brighton Centre Pulls Plug on Marilyn Manson Concert After Public Outcry

Marilyn Manson’s planned UK tour kickoff at the Brighton Centre on October 29th has been cancelled. Ticketmaster is currently displaying a cancellation notice and has halted sales for the event.

This follows mounting public pressure and an open letter from Green MP Sian Berry to Brighton and Hove city council leader Bella Sankey urging the cancellation. Berry’s letter, co-signed by various victim support groups and the University of Sussex students’ union, cited concerns about the impact of Manson’s performance on survivors and the wider community.

While a Los Angeles County investigation into allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence against Manson (real name Brian Warner) concluded earlier this year without charges, the controversy surrounding the musician clearly played a role in the decision. The LA County District Attorney cited insufficient evidence and the age of the allegations as reasons for not pursuing charges. The alleged incidents under investigation reportedly took place between 2009 and 2011 in West Hollywood.

The cancellation sparked mixed reactions online, with some applauding the decision and others criticizing it as censorship, noting Manson’s legal presumption of innocence.
