KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Knox County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dalton Swanger is awake and speaking after a head injury, KCSO announced Saturday evening.
In an update from 8 p.m. Saturday, KCSO said Swanger was off the ventilator and doing well, though he faces a long road to recovery. Swanger’s family and the nursing staff are not allowing visitors in order to allow his medical team to focus on treatment.

“We are truly grateful for every prayer spoken on his behalf, the generous donations that will allow him to concentrate on healing, and the overwhelming love and well wishes from across the nation,” KCSO posted. “Your support makes a difference in Deputy Swanger’s journey, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
