‘It’s unfortunate,’ DeSoto County families seek food resources after summer meal program ends

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Many families in DeSoto County are scrambling to find new food resources after the school district officially ended its summer meal program on the morning of Friday, June 27, 2025.

The DeSoto County School District’s child nutrition department said it distributed nearly 24,000 meals over a four-week span. The pilot program offered a week’s worth of shelf-stable meals to families with children present during food pick-up, including chicken taco pouches, yogurt kits, and cinnamon toast crunch bars.
