West Palm Beach teenagers are stepping up to learn the ropes of firefighting and emergency medical care through the WPBFD Junior Alerts Program, a collaboration with the Florence DeGeorges Boys & Girls Club that debuted its second year on Monday. The program, now in its sophomore year after a successful launch in 2024, aims to teach local youths the critical operations of fire services while instilling key life skills such as leadership and teamwork.
Running weekly, the program provides teens with hands-on experience, under the guidance of certified WPBFD firefighters at Fire Station 3 in West Palm Beach, teens can engage in learning expressive of the real challenges faced by firefighters every day and they gain a practical understanding of the demands and responsibilities of the profession. In a statement obtained by West Palm Beach’s official website, Captain Brandon Simmons of WPBFD voiced his enthusiasm about the program’s impact on participating youths, “These teens have been engaged since the moment they stepped off the bus—intrigued by how firefighters operate on a daily basis and eager to get hands-on with every piece of equipment shown to them.”…
