Kansas-Missouri Thunderstorm Watch: Hail and 70 MPH Winds Threaten Joplin, Coffeyville Until 9 PM Sunday

Wichita, Kansas – Strong thunderstorms packing 70 mph wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters could sweep across parts of Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma through 9 p.m. CDT Sunday, putting over a million residents at risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect for 30 counties spanning southeast Kansas, southwest Missouri, and northeast Oklahoma. The storm system could bring frequent lightning, damaging winds, and isolated large hail throughout the evening.

In Kansas, cities like Chanute, Coffeyville, and Pittsburg lie in the impact zone, as well as Neosho and Montgomery counties. Missouri cities including Springfield, Joplin, Branson, and Bolivar may see downed tree limbs and power outages as storms track east. Fayetteville, Arkansas, also borders the warned area…
