Severe storms possible Saturday evening in the Piedmont Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Isolated to scattered thunderstorms have popped up in the Piedmont Triad this evening. A few severe storms are possible and will be capable of producing winds up to 60 mph, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning. Isolated power outages and isolated instances of flash flooding are possible as well with any of the stronger storms. Temperatures will vary this evening depending on who has seen rain and who has not, but generally we’ll be in the 80s.

We’ve moved on from our heat wave and have shifted to a more normal summertime pattern with hot and humid weather leading to afternoon pop-up thunderstorms. Overnight Saturday into Sunday morning, stray thunderstorms will still be possible but most won’t see storms as we move into the late night hours.

Sunday starts off with temperatures in the low 70s and mostly sunny skies. We’ll heat up into the afternoon with highs in the low 90s. Afternoon pop-up thunderstorms return and will be capable of producing strong winds, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.
