Balloon release held for teen shooting victim in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – It was a somber evening on Bethel Street as blue and white balloons were carried to 15-year-old Rahiem Kelly’s home where he was shot and killed Friday.

“My son is gone for real, that is anger for real,” Kelly’s mom cried out to the crowd. Friends, family and community leaders gathered to grieve a life lost too soon.

“Everybody forgets about our kids when the hype is gone, nobody else is there for us, (Kelly’s mother) doesn’t just need you now, she’s going to need you later because the pain never stops,” one speaker told the crowd. “I have never seen so many people at a balloon release in my life, but we should be tired of balloon releases… we should be tired of burying our young people who haven’t even lived yet.”…
