The Austin Police Department has reported an arrest in connection with a fatal traffic incident that occurred on the night of May 6. The collision, which involved a motor vehicle and a motorcycle on the 2900 block of North Mopac Expressway NB, resulted in the death of Shawn Oveisi, a White male born January 3, 1978. Authorities have charged Agustin Guillen, a 38-year-old Hispanic male, with Collision Involving Death, a second-degree felony, as detailed in a statement released by the Austin Police Department.

Oveisi was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital, but he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries almost two weeks later on May 19. Those who have information regarding this case have been urged to contact the APD’s Vehicular Homicide unit or to submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
The collision is currently under investigation as the 34th fatal crash of the year in Austin. The incident increased the city’s total fatalities to 38 for the year, a jarring uptick from the prior year’s 24 fatal crashes that had led to 24 deaths by the same date. The significance of this rising trend in traffic-related fatalities draws attention to broader concerns regarding road safety and traffic enforcement within the region.
