An 18-year-old from Addison, identified as Emmanuel Rivera, is being detained pre-trial after DuPage County Judge Alexander McGimpsey sided with the State’s petition following an alleged high-speed chase that ended in a dramatic police confrontation. The incident, which included charges of illegal possession of a firearm, occurred on June 24, as per a release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
A disturbance call involving a white Nissan Sentra on N. Maple Avenue prompted Wood Dale police officers to respond. According to the details provided by DuPage County State’s Attorney, Rivera allegedly fled after police attempted to stop the Nissan he was driving. With law enforcement in pursuit, the vehicle was reported to have sped at least 60 mph in a zone marked for 20 mph. Subsequently, Rivera is said to have collided with a median and then, along with other occupants, fled on foot.
Upon searching the incapacitated Nissan, officers found a .40 caliber Glock 27 with a round in the chamber. State’s Attorney Robert Berlin was quoted in the statement as saying, “Like so many before him, Mr. Rivera allegedly tried to outrun the police instead of simply pulling over. As a result of the outstanding work by the Wood Dale Police Department in identifying Mr. Rivera as the alleged driver of the vehicle, he will remain in custody awaiting trial.”…
