Another round of storms possible Monday

Powerful straight-line winds pushed through the metro today, resulting in nearly 40,000 customers without power.

The severe weather threat has ended for tonight as we wait for the next round of storms that are set to fire up later in the day on Monday.

Isolated showers with be possible to start Monday, however, the pattern will get more active once the cold front pushes through closer to the evening hours. The risk for severe weather looks rather low, but after the active day today, I don’t want to rule anything out. We will have to watch for once again fast winds developing that may gust up to 50-60 mph.

Once the front pass, the pattern gets so much nicer. Mostly sunny conditions are expected for Tuesday through Thursday with temperatures into the upper 80s.

Additionally, humidity values will be relatively low for the summer time, so the oppressive summer muggies will stay away for a couple of days. Dewpoint builds back right around the 4th of July.

For your Independence Day, expect the temperature to skyrocket into the lower 90s with the heat index exceeding 100 degrees. Rain is looking unlikely, however, I can’t rule out the risk of a pop-up shower at this time…
