PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — While it won’t be as hot as last week, we are expecting highs to hover near 90° today with humidity bringing the heat index to the mid-to-upper-90s. There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms by mid-afternoon, and the western Piedmont has the best chance of excessive rainfall that may produce flash flooding.
The radar quiets down overnight with lows in the mid-70s.
A cold front, forecast to march across Tennessee and Kentucky tomorrow, will be heading into North Carolina on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Ahead of the front, we are expecting a 60% chance of thunderstorms during the day on Tuesday, and an 85% chance of rain Tuesday night. By Wednesday, the chance of rain drops to 40% with most activity west of the Triad by afternoon. Highs will be in the mid-80s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Behind the cold front, the humidity will drop modestly, and our skies will be mostly sunny for the end of the work week. July 4 is looking beautiful with sunny skies and clear conditions for fireworks Friday night! Highs are expected to return to 90° starting Thursday and stay there through the weekend. We will have partly cloudy skies both Saturday and Sunday…
