Why Hikers Love Seven Falls in Colorado Springs

If you love climbing stairs, Colorado is your state. Colorado loves stairs so much that we even built a staircase with 2,768 steps called the Manitou Incline. You’ll find stairs in the parks, stairs on the hiking trails, and even stairs going up some of our waterfalls.

Another set of famous stairs in the Centennial State can be found in El Paso County at The Broadmoor Seven Falls. Keep scrolling to find out more about this 181-foot cascade of seven distinct waterfalls along South Cheyenne Creek.

How The Broadmoor Seven Falls Got Its Name

Seven Falls is located within Colorado’s South Cheyenne Canyon, near Colorado Springs. The canyon has often been described as Colorado’s ‘grandest mile of scenery.’ The Broadmoor Seven Falls is named for the seven separate drops (Bridal Veil, Feather, Hill, Hull, Ramona, Shorty, and Weimer) that make up the falls.

3 of the waterfalls at Seven Falls take their names from previous owners of the land in Cheyenne Canyon: Hull, Weimer, and Hill. Ramona Falls is named for the Helen Hunt Jackson novel, and Bridal Veil and Feather, and Shorty are named for the way they look.

Climb The Steps To Eagle’s Landing

James Hull became the owner of the Seven Falls in 1882. In 1883, he had his sons begin work on a wooden staircase that would take visitors up to an overlook at the top of the falls. He charged ten cents. By 1885, he owned over 400 acres in Cheyenne Canyon. According to SevenFalls.com, his sons swamped out their wooden staircase for 224 iron steps in 1891. Today, it costs around $25 to visit.
