Storm Center PM Update: Mainly Quiet into Tuesday; Watching the 4th

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Following last weekend, today has been a very nice change of pace with ample sunshine and seasonable temperatures. That said, though, it has been rather windy at times. Take a look at our Gregory camera for example:

Fortunately, the wind is expected to calm down as we head into the night with high pressure centering itself overhead a bit more. That, combined with a clear sky and lower humidity, will set the stage for a very comfortable night. It’s a great chance to give your AC the night off and let the breeze do the work.

Tuesday picks up where Monday left off, only it’ll have the added bonus of a lack of wind. The difference, however, is on the thermometer. While Monday has been seasonable, heat begins to build again for your Tuesday. 80s are more widespread to the east, while 90s pop up more in central and southwestern KELOLAND. We may get an isolated shower or two as well to the west.

More heat builds into the region as we head through the second half of the week and into the upcoming holiday weekend. While it won’t be as hot as it was to start the summer season, we’ll see 90s return and even a few areas that toe the line of 100 at times. The heat backs off a bit after we clear the weekend and head into the start of next week.

In terms of active weather, we do need to watch things again later in the week. A few spotty shower and storm chances will be in place for both Wednesday and Thursday, but both days also end up being more dry than wet. That leads into the 4th of July and its accompanying weekend, where we have to watch for the potential to see showers and thunderstorms develop. While the day starts dry, it’s the evening and night that holds the better chance for unsettled weather. If you have outdoor plans on the 4th, keep an eye out for updates.

Shower and storm chances linger into Saturday and Sunday, as we bring better rain chances back again next Monday…
