ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A $25 million lawsuit will be filed soon by the mother of a student killed in last year’s Apalachee High School shooting.
The lawsuit is being filed by Breanna Schermerhorn, whose son, Mason Schermerhorn, 14, was one of four people killed in the Sept. 14, 2024, school shooting. Teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie and student Christian Angulo were also killed in the shooting.
On June 12, 2025, a letter from Puglise Law, a Snellville-based firm, was sent to various officials of the Jackson County board of commissioners, the Barrow County school system, the Jackson County sheriff’s office, the Georgia Department of Education and Apalachee High School.
The letter alleges the shooting that claimed Mason Schermerhorn’s life “was not random, nor was it unforeseeable.”…
