MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The judge who heard the state trial over the death of Tyre Nichols is speaking out on the decision to bring in a jury from Hamilton County, Tennessee instead of presenting the case to a local jury.
Judge James Jones stood by the decision during a panel discussion on jury selection at the University of Memphis law school Monday.
The trial, which took place earlier this year, ended with the acquittals of three Memphis police officers accused of beating Nichols to death in January 2023.
