Former employees at Vanderburgh County nursing homes face health care fraud charges

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Attorney General Todd Rokita announced individuals in 13 cases are facing charges as part of a nationwide crackdown on health care fraud, including two former employees at Vanderburgh County nursing homes.

The attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigated licensed health care professionals and Medicaid providers suspected of illegal activity, resulting in charges in 13 cases. Rokita called Medicaid a critical lifeline for Hoosiers, and said there is zero tolerance for those who abuse it for personal gain.

Jenny Byrd, 41, of Oakland City, was charged with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit, illegally possessing a narcotic drug and failing to make, keep or furnish a record.
