Grand Rapids has lost yet another local restaurant. Honestly, 2025 has been rough on the GR food scene. We just shared news about a downtown eatery shutting down and a Balkan bakery closing up shop.
Now, Sushi Kuni is the latest to shut its doors.
Sushi Kuni, located on Breton Road, had been serving up Japanese and Korean fusion dishes since 2010. The menu was packed with favorites—crispy dumplings, savory Korean pancakes, spring rolls, crab rangoon, and more.
You could warm up with a bowl of soup or dig into a fresh salad before chowing down on a wide variety of entrées like chicken, beef, or salmon teriyaki, poke bowls, katsu, stir fry, bulgogi, and bibimbap. And let’s not forget the sushi—so many rolls, so much sashimi—with ingredients like shrimp, crab, eel, tuna, mango, filet mignon, asparagus, avocado… the list went on.
