A Calhoun County prisoner’s daylight dash for liberation ended in swift recapture by law enforcement this weekend, following an attempted escape during a hospital visit for a hand injury. FOX17 reported that the incident occurred just before 8 a.m. yesterday, when the 30-year-old man, whose name has not been released, made a break from the undisclosed hospital facility.
The Sheriff’s Office detail that was escorting the prisoner acted promptly, running after the fleeing individual and calling for backup which resulted in him being back in custody by 8:04 a.m.; the quick resolution of the incident was supported by an officer from the Battle Creek Police Department, amid initial concerns for public safety which were later deemed unfounded. Meanwhile, WZZM13 details efforts by responding units who immediately set up a perimeter, curbing any further threat to the community.
There was no interruption to hospital services during the brief endeavor, and law enforcement reassured the public that there was “no ongoing threat” as confirmed in a release to MLive.
