‘Like the Ocean Forest is back’: Myrtle Beach man pitching monument of historic hotel to city council

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach man is trying to memorialize a historic hotel, honor its history, and share the fond memories he and many of his fellow residents have there.

If you drive to the end of Calhoun Road in Myrtle Beach and meet the roundabout between Poinsett Road and Porcher Drive, you’ll be where the Ocean Forest Hotel once stood and where Reuben Hyman hopes the hotel’s monument will be.

Hyman told News13 that Ocean Forest opened in February 1930 as one of the first major hotels in Myrtle Beach. He says if Myrtle Beach residents do not honor buildings like the Ocean Forest Hotel, we will forget our history and lose our sense of community…
