A suspect is facing multiple charges in a fatal accident in 2024 in which a witness claims he was driving like a “bat out of hell.”
Steven Ray Keidel, 53, of Ocala, is facing charges including vehicular homicide in the death of 55-year-old Rebecca Howells of Oxford. Her 81-year-old father of Yorkville, Ill., who was riding as passenger in her vehicle, also suffered serious injuries.
Keidel was arrested this past week following an investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $110,000 bond.
Howells, a resident of Lakeside Landings, was at the wheel of a Nissan Altima at about 7 p.m. Aug. 19 traveling eastbound on County Road 472 at NE 42nd Boulevard when a Cadillac CTS began passing other traffic and entered into her lane of travel, according to an arrest report.
