CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If you’ve ever driven down Staples Street and felt like the traffic lights were working against you, you’re not alone. But the City of Corpus Christi says the days of stop-and-go frustration may be behind us thanks to a new high-tech traffic light synchronization project that’s already cutting commute times.
Staples Street, a major artery connecting Yorktown to SPID, used to be notorious for stoplights that seemed stuck on “red.” Now, with signal timing streamlined and traffic flow reprogrammed, city engineers say the road is running smoother than it has in years.
“We’ve seen a reduction in travel time over the last month during peak hours,” said Renee Couture, assistant director of public works. “We’ve also received fewer complaints.”…
