Police: 3 charged with robbing couple at gunpoint at Springfield motel

Three men accused of robbing a couple at gunpoint at the Motel 6 near the intersection of Gateway Street and International Way in Springfield earlier this year recently were arrested and arraigned in a Lane County Circuit Court.

Ashton Johnson, a 27-year-old Cottage Grove resident, allegedly approached one of the victims in the Motel 6 parking lot on April 4 and attempted to sell him an Oregon Trail Card, otherwise known as an Electric Benefit Transfer card. The victim declined the offer and went about his day.

The Springfield Police Department said in a news release that early the next day, around 1 a.m., the victim and his girlfriend were hanging out in their motel room when three men came in brandishing firearms. While the two victims were held at gunpoint, the men stole property from inside the room before running away…
