A man serving life in prison at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla for the killing of a mentally disabled Salem woman died June 29.
Bonafacio Merino-Apolinar, 54, was sentenced in 2007 to life in prison without parole by a Marion County judge for five counts of aggravated murder.
According to Statesman Journal archives, Merino-Apolinar was linked to the 1991 beating, rape and asphyxiation of Janet Unruh after an investigator used an improved DNA analysis in 2000. He was arrested in 2005 in Monterey, California…
