Salamack, along with over 300 other defendants, allegedly participated in health care fraud and illegal drug schemes which caused over $14.6 billion in alleged false billings and over 15.6 million pills distributed. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Salamack caused $163,639.58 in losses for false claims and issued 108 prescriptions.

Officials said Salamack lives in Delray Beach in Florida, but still practiced psychiatric medicine in Albany. In the investigation, officials determined she submitted false claims to health care benefit programs in New York for services that she never provided, as well as regularly prescribed Adderall to a relative of a former patient.

“Health care professionals are not above the law and must be held to the highest standards, especially when dealing with controlled substance,” said Drug Enforcement Administration New York Special Agent in Charge Frank Tarentino. “Anja Salamack knowingly chose to put profits above the health and well-being of those lives she took an oath to help when she unlawfully prescribed the controlled substance amphetamine for nonmedical purposes. Salamack’s actions were no different from those of any drug trafficker, fueling an already deadly and highly addictive opioid crisis.”
